Like Special Topics, Pessl's last foray, this builds gossamer layer by gossamer layer, a story that holds you in it's spell until the last page (spell is a hint). Most of the time held in its grip, though I can't say consistently, thus 4 instead of 5 starts. It is very dark and plays with the edges of horror/noir/crime/shadows, but ultimately doesn't go black-dark. Nevertheless not light reading. Definitely worth it though in my onion. I will always read what Pessl publishes.
